Request For Candidate Endorsement

To request an endorsement from Stonewall Young Democrats, please fill out this form. For any questions or concerns, please email info@stonewallyoungdemocrats.com.

Candidates being considered for endorsement may be asked to fill out a brief questionnaire and participate in a 20 minute interview with the Endorsements Committee. Candidates recommended for endorsement by the Committee will be added to the consent calendar at the following membership meeting. At least 10 voting members of SYD are required to pull a candidate or race from consent.

Please note that filling out the Request for Endorsement form does not guarantee that SYD will take up that race, however at least one candidate from the race must fill out the request for endorsement form for the race to be considered.

Candidate interviews and endorsement meetings will take place over Zoom.

RULES OF DEBATE

Based on SYD policy, if a candidate or race is successfully pulled, the rules of debate shall be as follows:

• For debate, the first motion we will vote on is whether to endorse the recommended candidate. There will be three speakers for, and three against.  

• Speakers must be a member of the club, however they can yield their time to other guests

• After the 6 speakers, we will close the debate and go to a vote using an anonymous zoom poll. 

• To be endorsed, the recommended candidate must receive over 50% of the vote. 

• In the case that the recommended candidate fails to gain a majority of the vote; the non-recommended candidate must achieve a 2/3rd majority voting threshold to receive the endorsement from Stonewall Young Democrats. 

• If both votes fail then the automatic official position of Stonewall Young Democrats becomes a “No Endorsement”.
